Thai real life heroes
- King Ram Kamhang: One of the first kings of
Thailand. He was a king around 800 years ago. He is not a
hero because of war, however. He is our hero because he
invented Thai alphabets.
- King Naresoun: The are rumours that Warner wants
to make a film about him (because his 'real' life was an
epic). I hope Warner did everything right this time
because the true story is great enough it does not need
any addition. But what I hope even more is to see Thai
filmmaker make it first. Anyway, the history goes like
this: Naresoun was a only a boy when Siam was concurred
by Burma. The king of Burma at that time, I believe, was
one of the greatest warriors the world has produced (His
name is Bu-reng-nong, if I am correct). Naresoun wanted
to free Siam from Burma. In his adult year he managed to
form enough resistant (I believe this happened after Bu-reng-nong
passed away) and Burma sent a huge army to crash
Naresoun's army. Now here is the part that really made it
an epic. The army did not really fight until one victored
over the other. Our king fought one-on-one with the Crown
Prince of Burma, who is his childhood friend/rival, to
determine the fate of the country. They fought on
elephants using their long sword-spears, and the
elephants also fought one another. Can you imagine this
scene? It was a close fight. The Crown Prince
of Burma almost managed to kill our king but in the end
our king won and the country was free.
- King Taksin: After king Naresourn freed Siam from
Burma. Siam were peaceful. The peaceful period lasted for
many generations. People were not aware that Burma still
wanted Siam. Therefore Siam was taken by Burma again.
Taksin led Thai people to fight back and won our freedom
again. (Sorry I don't remember much about him). But when
Taksin became king, we was betrayed and killed by his
general for the throne. However, that bad man could not
control the situation and in the end, people did not
accept him. Another general was invited by the people to
become the new king: Rama I of the Chakri Dynasty.
- Praya Pichai, the 'broken sword' man: He his a
soldier who has great skill in Thai boxing and just never
give up in any fight. His story is a story of courage in
battlefield. He fought so many enemy soldiers until one
of his sword broke (Thai soldier uses 2 swords in a fight)
and he still fought them till the end (I believe it's
when reinforcement arrived and the enemy had to withdraw)
and survived.
- Kanom Tom (translated -> hot sweet): The most
skillful Thai boxer I ever heard of. I believe he really
exists but his story may be rather exaggerated. I heard
that he fought and win against 8 Burmese boxer in a
single fight.
- King Mongkut: Yes, the
great grandfather of Thailand's present king. You all
heard of him from the novel 'The King and I'. The real
king Mongkut is so great. I've mentioned a lot about him
already so I'm not gonna do it here.
- King Chulalongkorn: A
great reformer following his father (King Mongkut). He
modernized the hospital, road, etc almost everything.
King Chulalongkorn is the most beloved king in Thai
history.
- King Ananda: Not many people will know much about
him. He was murdered in the grand palace. His murderer
has never been found (but I think I know who it is,
according to the book I read (see book section), but the
murderer is dead now). I regard him as one of my hero
because I believe it was him that gave courage to our
present king (his younger brother) to carry on ruling the
country, introducing great reforms, etc despite being
constantly pressurized by military dictators.
- King Bhumibol: Our present king. He introduce
great reforms in so many poor regions of the country. He
is as well loved by the people as King Chulalongkorn.
